Team BTO Sports-KTM- WPS Thunder Valley Race Report Camarillo, CA (June 6, 2016) – Team BTO Sport-KTM- WPS headed to the home state of Andrew Short this past weekend for the 3 rd round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship series at Thunder Valley MX in Lakewood, CO. Team riders Andrew Short, Justin Brayton and Benny Bloss rode strong throughout the day on the chopped up track.
The hard pack, slick and choppy Thunder Valley track had the Team BTO Sports mechanics, along with the help of WP USA suspension techs, working double time to find the correct settings for Team BTO riders. After finding the right settings, Justin Brayton would qualify 12th, Benny Bloss 18 th and Andrew Short 21st .
As the gate dropped for moto 1, Justin Brayton, along with teammates Andrew Short and Benny Bloss gassed it up the start straight, rounding the first turn inside the top 10. Brayton continued moving forward and battled inside the top 5 for most of the moto. He raced hard through the full moto, holding on to a 9th place finish in moto 1. Brayton worked overtime in Moto 2, as he slid out on the first lap. He would remount, work his way back up through the field on the chopped up track and finished the moto in 14th . His 9-14 score would claim him 13th overall for the day.
“Overall my day was ok” Brayton said. “The track was rough both motos. I had a good start in the first moto and ran 5th for the first half. I tightened up a bit mid race, but loosened back up and actually ran my fastest lap at the end of the moto. I feel we are right where we need to be and will be ready at High Point.”
Andrew Short came out of the gate in moto one ready to race in front of his hometown fans, rounding the first corner inside the top 10. Short battled both the field and the rutted track in moto 1, finishing in 17th place. Moto 2 saw the Shorty we are used to seeing off the gate, as he used the combination of FMF Racing exhaust power and traction from the Pirelli MX tires to round the first turn in second place. A few mistakes shuffled him back into the field, battling inside the top twenty. At the end of the moto, Short held down 18th place. His 17-18 score landed him 17th overall on the day.
“My starts this weekend were better” Short said. “The track got rough throughout the day and I made a few mistakes out there that cost me. We have a few things to work on during the week and we will bounce back at High Point.”
Benny Bloss had his speed dialed all day on the Thunder Valley track. After a mid-pack start, Bloss pulled a tear-off from his Scott goggles and went to work early in the race. He would cut through the field and by lap two would be inside the top twenty. His determination propelled him forward, working his way to 13th place by the checkered flag. He carried that momentum in to moto 2, where a strong start had him 6th around the first turn. Bloss would battle tough on the slick track, holding his own to finish 15th by the end of the moto. His 13-15 score landed him 15th overall on the day.
“It was a tough weekend” Bloss said. “My first moto I didn’t get the best start and had to work through the pack. I got a great start in the second moto, but little mistakes kept me from a top ten. My speed is there and I will be back strong at High Point.”
Team BTO Sports takes a week off before heading to High Point MX in Mt. Morris, PA. for round 4 of the 2016 Pro Motocross Championship series.
